Cracking on folds and imprecise folding often cannot be prevented by simply using standard scoring devices on folding machines. Sometimes high quality folding depends on offline scoring. Unfortunately, traditional die scoring costs a lot. The dies are expensive and machine running times are slow. Wouldn’t it be great if there was another option?
Rickard Bindery has just installed a brand new Rollem rotary scoring machine to achieve die quality scoring at a substantially reduced cost. Also, it can score from both sides of the sheet in one pass. Your job may be a candidate for high quality rotary scoring if it is printed:
• On thick stock
• Cross grain
• On a weak sheet (i.e., recycled stock, short fibers, brittle fibers, brittle ink, etc.)
• On stock with heavy enamel coating or clay fillers

Rotary scoring has advantages that extend beyond the obvious cost savings. Dual opposing scoring shafts enable one-pass conversion of Work & Turn, Work & Tumble and One-Side-Only impositions.
Moreover, when working on particularly difficult stocks, we can first lay down a “soft” score, immediately followed by a “hard” score, giving you the quality you need without sacrificing the turnaround times your customers demand.

What about “interrupted” and right angle perforating? Rotary scoring machines handle them with ease.
