Folding paper down to a
miniature or micro-mini format requires considerable planning and operator
skill. However, folding the paper is only part of the job. Many small
format projects need to be either inserted into boxes (or other
containers) or glued directly onto something else. Therefore, make sure
that the products you produce are fully compatible with any inserting or
outserting machinery used in downstream manufacturing processes.
Fold sequences are
important. The “Clamshell” (RTA-Right Turn Angle) fold shown in Figure
1 requires special miniature folding equipment. Although Figure 2 folds to
the same size as figure 1, the outside panels tend to open up and catch
during insertion. The important point here is that Figure 1 remains flat
during the insertion process and therefore is much more
automation-friendly.
