Shipping & Packaging Printed Product

SHIPPING FLAT SHEETS FROM PRINTER TO BINDERY
Help your bindery increase your final yield by shipping flat sheets in a way that reduces movement.

Here are five easy tips to get product to your bindery safely and economically:

1. Size your skids and skid tops as close to your sheet size as possible. If they're too large, the downward pressure won't be distributed evenly, increasing the likelihood of sheets moving or even "kicking out" during sudden jolts during transportation.

2. Band your skids in both directions and use 3/4" metal bands instead of 1/2". This increases the surface area of your band by fifty-percent, which makes a large difference in strength without significantly increasing your per-skid costs.

3.  Consider using corner boards, especially if you're shipping slippery coated stock or multiple stacks of sheets on skids.

4.  "Tight load" your skids on trucks, preferably in a "honey comb" staggered pattern. This reduces the chance of a disaster at no cost.

5.  Most transit damage occurs at, or near the corners or edges of sheets and is usually trimmed off in the cutting process, saving these sheets from the waste pile. So ... let your bindery partner do the cutting!

SHIPPING FINISHED PRODUCT FROM BINDERY ELSEWHERE
There are a lot of options to get product from the bindery to the next destination. Again, the goal is maximum protection at a minimum cost!

- Creating units that are easy to handle. Common choices include: String tying, paper banding, rubber banding, poly strapping, poly bands, boxing, shrink wrapping, and loading into POP displays. (NOTE: Poly bands look great!)

- Putting product on pallets. Common choices include: Cartons, large displays, brick style loading on skids and telecartons (a.k.a. "gaylords" or powerpacks).

PRESENTATION IS IMPORTANT

At Rickard Bindery, we know that people receiving product make judgments about quality based on first impressions. We want those impressions to be great!
