Printing professionals should strive to create real value by helping their clients succeed. For example, what are the goals of a marketing manager selling a retail product housed in a bottle?
Regardless of whether it’s ketchup, wine, vinegar or shampoo, marketers are judged by how quickly products move off of retail shelves. Be the hero. Suggest neck hangers. Here are two compelling reasons why.
First, neck hangers help consumers decide which product to choose at point of purchase. Consider wine for a moment. Wouldn’t an attractive neck hanger on one bottle tilt the buying decision toward it, all else being equal?
Second, neck hangers can help cross-sell other products. For example, if soy sauce is being sold, wouldn’t it make sense to introduce other complementary products available at the same store?
DESIGN TIPS:
1) If your design has a “starburst” die cut neck opening, ask your bindery about nick placement. However, try to avoid starbursts when possible because edges catch, which increases spoilage and slows production rates.
2) When planning neck hanger jobs, involve your bindery early in the design process so that you get exactly the product you need. For example, some neck hanger designs work fine without any glue (see “B”). This is desirable for some applications.
