EZ release glue has many uses. Common applications include:
-
Direct mail: Ez-release glue holds pieces closed as they travel through the United States Postal Service mail stream. The ez-release solution is an attractive and cost effective substitute for wafer seals.
-
Attaching: Ez-release glue is used to affix pieces such as inserts, cards, coins, etc. to a carrier substrate for easy removal.
-
Internal bindery operations: Normal seam glue is the usual choice to hold signatures with foldout pages together during saddle stitching. However, when there isn't enough trim-off margin available to assure complete removal of glue, it’s safer to use ez-release glue instead (to prevent forms from unraveling).
-
Small format products: Miniature and small format products often need to be held closed. For example, non-glued inserts placed into containers for product fill may "tent" causing short fills.
Choose the Right EZ-Release Glue
There are three primary types of ez-release glue: 1) cold applied latex, 2) cold applied wax-based, and 3) hot melt. Each has advantages and areas of concern. For example, cold latex glue shouldn’t be used with aqueous coatings because it may dissolve aqueous upon contact, creating an unintended permanent bond. Another example is that thick stock with memory needs strong adhesion and fast set times.

Be safe: Discuss your project with your finishing partner and let them help you make the right choice.
The Rickard Bindery Advantage
Rickard Bindery just installed two new HHS hot melt ez-release units that can precisely lay down tiny dots of glue with superior tack properties.
(**Now, hot melt angel hair problems occur less often.)
