Some projects call out for solutions that are just a bit out of the ordinary. Let’s say you’re producing a small, 12-page booklet that will be packaged with an expensive bottle of liquor. Determining the proper binding method has become a sticking point. The desired size of the booklet is too small for saddle stitching (which has a minimum size of 2.5" x 3.5”), and too thin for perfect binding. A solution that can handle these requirements is paste binding, which can be performed in a single pass through one machine.
Pasted booklets up to 12 pages can be trimmed in-line during folding, creating an efficient workflow. Popular pasted booklet applications include hang tags (on bottles and other packaging); coupon, product information and instruction booklets; children’s books and more.
Planning and Production Tips
Leave ample gluing margins – Like any other binding method, be sure to keep copy away from the binding edge so it isn’t obscured. Leave at least a 3/8” margin between the backbone and the copy.
Let us help with layouts – Pasted booklets require a little extra planning in order for production to go smoothly. While 8- and 12-page booklet layouts pose few problems, tricky 6- and 16-page layouts require plenty of experience to engineer properly. Let us help you plan your pasted booklets early in the design phase to minimize production problems.
