Plastic cards are a popular trend in retail marketing. Many retailers now offer gift cards rather than gift certificates, allowing users to redeem their value little by little if they choose. Membership cards for everything from hair salons to supermarkets are commonplace, complete with magnetic strips bearing a discount that can be redeemed at retail locations.
These cards are almost always attached to a paper backing, either for in-store display or direct mailing. This makes them ideal promotional pieces for a wide range of applications.
The Attaching Process
Plastic cards are typically attached to the backing piece with a spot of EZ-release glue (also called removable glue), which can be easily rubbed away by the end user once the piece is detached.
Once cards are applied, the pieces can then be folded and glued, if necessary. Plow folding is the preferred method; buckle folding can lead to marking and
scuffing due to the thickness of the card. For products such as self-mailers, removable and side-seam glue can be applied inline during folding to create an efficient workflow.
The Rickard Advantage
At Rickard Bindery, we can attach almost any thickness of plastic card onto a wide range of substrates. We can also attach much more than plastic cards, including product sample packages such as shampoo, toothpaste and aspirin; product inserts; pharmaceutical instructions and more.
