| Oversized folding projects such as maps benefit from a series of accordion folds (top) followed by parallel folds (middle) to achieve their final size. |
Projects that require large-format or oversized folding capabilities are becoming increasingly attractive to printers with larger presses. Posters, display graphics, calendars, maps, promotional materials, diagrams and even direct mail are a few design concepts that can benefit from the efficiency of large-format and oversized folding.
Design Considerations
Since most large-format folding projects require several folds to get down to their final size, the type and sequence of the folds is a significant factor. For example, map projects often use accordion folds followed by a series of parallel folds. This allows air to escape during folding, which helps prevent paper wrinkling and other production issues. Depending on the sheet size, final size and folding style of your project, one folding sequence may be much more economical than another. Consult Rickard Bindery and let us help you determine an appropriate folding sequence for your project.
If your oversized folding application will be placed inside a publication, keep in mind a folded edge may be needed for either automatic feeding or attaching onto magnet strips and hangers. At Rickard Bindery, we can help you design your project for efficient production.
The Rickard Advantage
At Rickard Bindery, our range of large-format and oversized folding capabilities are the most comprehensive available anywhere. We can fold sheet sizes as large as 44” x 80” with up to 110 panels.
