Attaching is a great way to bring customers and prospects up close and personal with your product or offer. Items such as magnets, credit cards, product sample packets and pharmaceutical inserts can be attached to folded carrier pieces such as direct mailers, magazine inserts and retail or point-of-purchase items.
Be sure to discuss how you would like to submit or receive your project from Rickard Bindery - it can make a huge difference in planning the runs.

Inline Folding – In addition to folding, Rickard Bindery can affix inserts at any stage of the folding sequence in a single pass. Attaching projects can also be spot glued or wafer sealed shut for easy imaging and distribution. Not all products are ideal for this process, however, as some may be too delicate. Single-serving ketchup packets, for example, can open and disrupt buckle folding machines. Performing all of these processes inline reduces cost, saves time and delivers your projects more efficiently.
Materials Tip One: Be sure your substrate is strong enough to carry your attachment. The weight of the carrier substrate should be directly proportional to the weight of the attached item. At Rickard, we recommend at least a 7-point stock for most attaching applications. Keep in mind that while this may be sufficient for items such as plastic cards or magnets, heavier items such as CD/DVD discs and product sample packets may require a sturdier substrate.
Materials Tip Two: One common oversight is to forget about how the product sample itself is received. Make sure the company supplying the product insert is going to supply them all with the same orientation. For smaller inserts this typically means the product arrives packed in trays. Missing this step means valuable production time is lost simply getting the materials correctly aligned for automatic machine feeding.
